LA RIBOT


Artist, ballet dancer and choreographer born in Madrid.

From 1993 to 2003 La Ribot carried out her most emblematic project entitled Piezas distinguidas (Distinguished pieces). These consisted in very short pieces situated half way between dance and visual art, which were sold to distinguished proprietors and presented both in theatres, museums or galleries.

In 1997 she settled in London and became an associate artist member of Artadmin. Between 1997 and 2001, she organised the cycle Desviaciones (Deviations) in Madrid, an international meeting point for contemporary dance. In 2000 she received the National Prize of Dance awarded by the Ministry of Spanish Culture. In 2003, under the title of Panoramix, she reunited all her distinguished pieces in a 3 hour show which she presented in the Tate Modern in London, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Her choreographic pieces were represented amongst other places in the Théâtre de la Ville and the festival d’Automne in Paris, the Adelaide festival in Australia, Nouvelles Danses in Montreal, Panorama Rio de Janeiro, Festival de Otoño in Madrid, Tanzquartier Viena…

From 2002 onwards her video work has been displayed in the Soledad Lorenzo gallery in Madrid, in the Museo Serralves in Portugal, the South London Gallery in London and the Centro Itaú Cultural in Sao Paolo Brasil.

Between 2004 and 2006 she directed the project 40 spontaneous, where a group of amateurs selected in each of the cities visited, took over the stage. This project was presented in over fifteen cities with more than 400 people taking part in it.

In 2004 she settled down in Geneva. In 2006 she presented Laughing Hole with the Soledad Lorenzo gallery in Madrid, created for Art Unlimited, Art Basel 37 – Switzerland.
